Wordt het een blog of een wiki?

In de blog Marcus' World van Marcus Banks? een interessante bijdrage met de titel: "Why Professional Librarian Journals Should Evolve into Blogs".

In zijn betoog draagt Marcus argumenten aan ten faveure van blogging ten opzichte van publiceren in tijdschriften, ook e-tijdschriften veronderstel ik.

Kort samengevat:
Voor

• blogs are among the most vibrant library literature today
• peer review should be a post-publication process, rather than a pre-publication process that sometimes drags out for many months.

Contra

• Most people will prefer to publish in established journals rather than an unestablished blog
• All of the supporting structures--from PubMed citations to tenure requirements--favor the traditional journal
• Blogs are ephemeral; they come and go at the speed of light.

Met de standpunten die pleiten voor blogging ten opzichte van traditioneel publiceren ben ik het volledig eens.

Althans nu. Het enig wat wij moeten doen is dus de contrastandpunten wegnemen.

Simpel is het niet, want je zou bijvoorbeeld ook eens aan een wiki als publicatiemedium kunnen denken. En dat doet Marcus niet.

Daarom snap ik de reactie van iemand in een blog met verwijzing naar de blog van Marcus wel:

"Frankly, this comes into conflict with the crowd who think everything's going to turn into a wiki. Personally, I'd be happy with microfilm."

Overduidelijk zullen we hier nog vaker over horen (tijdens congressen, dicussies op de gang) dan wel lezen (in wiki's, blogs, pdf's, e-journals).
